As far as the quality of the sound, one KW181 beats 2 ksubs, but it is easier to transport 2 ksubs and the room sound is more even. Based on the specs, it would take 4 KS112 subs to equal the volume of a single KW181. Just doesn’t make sense cost-wise. JamminJoe, Jun 18, 2018 Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2018) – As QSC celebrates one million K Family loudspeakers sold since their introduction, the company is pleased to introduce the newest K Family member, the ultra-compact KS112 powered subwoofer. Joining the previously-introduced KS212C cardioid powered subwoofer, the KS112 is the second model in the KS subwoofer series. I had the KW181 for 2 years and transporting it was just too difficult, even though it is one of the lightest 18" subs around. I thought I would try to pair the KS112 with my K12.2's and what a match. I purchased a second one that is sure to cover any size wedding. It's not too heavy but definitely has the sound of a big sub. The KW153 by QSC, sets a new standard for wood enclosure active subwoofers for the KW and KLA Series loudspeaker systems The new KS212C from QSC is a cardioid subwoofer that utilizes dual 12-inch cone transducers powered by a pair of class D amplifiers (each rated at 1,800 watts peak).. It’s a 6th-order bandpass design, with ported chambers on either side of the woofers, which can enhance efficiency and output capabilities.
I compared the KW181 with one of my RCF 4PRO8001AS subs. The input sensitivity of these two seemed pretty much the same. With the gain knob on each wide open, the KW181 in "normal" mode and the RCF crossover set to 100 Hz, the subs had very similar ouput levels and hit the limiters at the same time. I get steered towards the Cardioid subs and as I'm sure they're fantastic they are moving into a bigger box thus the portable issue is a concern. again, is the KS112 a better sub across the board verses the Ksubs? do you think my desired system above would out perform the previous K boxes with the Ksubs? thanks!
