The Natural Rate of Unemployment (NRU) is the rate of unemployment after the labor market is in equilibrium, when real wages have found their free-market level and when the aggregate supply of labor balanced with the aggregate demand for labor. The Natural Rate of Unemployment represents the rate of unemployment to which the economy naturally gravitates towards in the long run. The ideal real unemployment rate for the United States is 3.5% - 4.5%. Zero unemployment wouldn’t be ideal, also almost impossible, because it would indicate a severely overheating economy. Three types of unemployment make up the general natural unemployment figures. These are expected to occur in a healthy economy: Structural unemployment. One approach to determine the natural rate of unemployment is to look at the most recent time period when the U.S. economy was plausibly at full-employment. Maybe this is 2005, maybe it's 2007
